I'm bummed. When I heard Kanye West was getting into the travel game, I thought maybe the Hollywood-visits-South-Central dream that was Soul Plane would finally fly the friendly skies.
Apparently Kanye is no Snoop Dogg. Instead of his own airline, West—who already has multiplatinum sales, several Grammy awards, and millions of adoring fans—is launching an online travel agency. The College Dropout's Kanye Travel Ventures, which has just debuted, is not exactly original in its offerings of air, hotel, car, and cruise sales, but it does feature the cartoons that have become the Chicago rapper's trademark. Word on the street is trips to Kanye's shows and events will be worked in later.
KTV is, according to a press release, "a travel program specifically geared to serve the business and leisure travel demands of Kanye's world-wide fan base." Critics may accuse Kanye of being a Gold Digger, but I think a travel website is better than some of the other recent celebrity brand extensions we seen ...
