If you've ever hit the Colorado slopes in winter you know about mountain air therapy. Come back for another dose in summer, when the Mile High City boasts more authentic and affordable experiences than you'll ever have time for. Let's face it: Any time you go, you're in for a treat. Start with a Red Rocks Park visit or Coors Brewery tour, and then catch a ride on the free downtown shuttle to museums and parks near your historic B&B on Capitol Hill.
Red Rocks Park & Amphitheatre: The Beatles, U2, and hundreds of other bands have belted out tunes at Red Rocks. Surrounded by 500-foot-high red sandstone cliffs, it's one of the world's best known and most loved concert sites. Concertgoers blog about the air, the stars, the gorgeous view, and the acoustics here. Hike the trails around the venue to see famed monolith formations like "Ship Rock" and "Creation Rock," both taller than Niagara Falls. Park admission is free.
Capitol Hill Mansion Bed & Breakfast Inn: This lovely Richardsonian Romanesque mansion, built from ruby sandstone with turrets, balconies, and a curving porch, is nestled in the quaint Capitol Hill neighborhood downtown. Upscale restaurants and attractions are just a short walk away. Relax in one of the historic inn's eight rooms, which perfectly combine early 1900s opulence and modern panache. Guests are treated to a full gourmet breakfast and evening wine service featuring Colorado wines. Rooms go for $114 to $199 per night.
Coors Brewery tour: Drinking cheap is easy in the Mile High City, home to the world's largest single brewery. Take a free tour of Coors and see how the Rocky Mountain brewer turns out up to 22 million barrels of suds each year. The best part, of course, is the tour's finale, when you (with your ID) get the chance to sip back samples.
