Don't Shoot Your Eye Out Over High Prices in Cleveland, Ohio

Posted December 14, 2009 by Kate Hamman

OH-Cleveland-House-DEF Located on Lake Erie, Cleveland offers a scenic stay in a big city without the high prices. While here, you can tour the home of a popular holiday film, spend an entire day shopping, and then explore a riverside area filled with good eats and entertainment.

A Christmas Story House: If the line, "you'll shoot your eye out," conjures images of Christmases spent rooting for Ralphie and his Red Ryder BB Gun, then it's time you paid a visit to the actual house from A Christmas Story. Located just outside downtown, the house that was used in the filming of the movie is now available for tours, inviting you to experience A Christmas Story like never before. Afterwards, you can visit the museum across the street to see film memorabilia, photos, and artifacts. Admission costs $7.50 for both the house and the museum.

Tower City Center: When it comes to shopping, the Tower City Center in the heart of downtown has wrapped up a day's worth of activities in a pretty and well-organized little bow. You can spend the day browsing more than 100 different shops, watch a flick at the 11-screen theater, or refuel at one of six restaurants. Shops range from discount stores like A Dollar to more upscale retailers such as Brooks Brothers.

The Flats: The Flats is the place to be in downtown Cleveland when you need to blow off a little shopping steam. This once industrial area has been transformed into an entertainment and food district, and now both the east and west banks of the Cuyahoga River draw hungry appetites by the hordes. More than 50 venues and a slew of restaurants make it an ideal place to start and end your evening. Options range from the cheap eats to spendy seafood, and most clubs charge a cover.
