Sundance may sparkle with A-list celebs during its film fest, but in winter the ski slopes steal the limelight. Swoosh down 41 spectacular runs, avoiding Park City-sized crowds and lift lines. The local grill sizzles with organic cuisine, and nights are spent fireside in rustic cottages—where package deals help save a few dollars. No wonder this resort town is a Conde Nast Traveler readers' choice pick.
Skiing and Snowboarding: Explore more than 500 acres of skiable and shreddable terrain at Sundance Resort. Experts head for the powder in the "deep and steep" bowls or pull off ollies in the skinny chutes. For the less adventurous, there are dozens of immaculately groomed runs. Take a hot chocolate break at Bearclaw lodge with 360-degree views of the surrounding mountains, or strap on snowshoes or cross-country skis for some slower-paced fun in the snow. Full-day lift tickets are $47.
The Foundry Grill: You'll find a crackling fire, picture windows, and menus stocked with organic goods at the Foundry Grill. Dig into oatmeal ($7.95)—made especially for Sundance—topped with brown sugar and walnuts. Or warm up apres-ski with a bite from the applewood grill. Meatloaf sandwiches with garlic toasted focaccia, sautéed mushroom and caramelized onion gravy ($13.50) quickly quell afternoon munchies. In the evening, linger over rotisserie pork spaetzle with braised red cabbage and apple compote ($25.50).
Sundance Resort's suites: Snuggle into rustic charm, glowing fireplaces, and a touch of Native American style in Sundance's mountainside suites. Even the most budget-friendly rooms ($190) have soaring ceilings, colorful duvets, and gorgeous views of the snowy surroundings. Spring for a kitchenette suite and save on meal costs.
